Om Shanti Om (1977)

Om Prakash Makhija is a junior artist who dreams of becoming a big star. He is in love with Shantipriya, a popular actress, but she is secretly married to Mukesh Mehra, a film producer. Mukesh wants to divorce Shanti as she is pregnant with his child, but she refuses. He decides to kill her by setting fire to the set of their film Om Shanti Om. Om witnesses this and tries to save Shanti, but both of them die in the fire.

Om Shanti Om (2007)

Om is reincarnated as Om Kapoor, the son of Rajesh Kapoor, a famous actor. He suffers from pyrophobia and has flashes of his previous life. He meets Mukesh, who has changed his name to Mike and has returned to India after 30 years. He also meets Sandhya, a look-alike of Shanti, who is an aspiring actress. Om realizes that he has been reborn to avenge Shanti's death and expose Mukesh's crime. He convinces Sandhya to impersonate Shanti and tricks Mukesh into confessing his guilt. Mukesh tries to escape but is killed by a chandelier that falls on him. Om and Sandhya reunite and Om finally says "Om Shanti Om", which he could not say in his previous life.
