The film became the fifth highest opening day grossing Indian film of 2015. It grossed 86.92 crore worldwide. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of the lead actors, the music by Ilaiyaraaja, and the historical significance of the story, but criticized the poor visual effects, the screenplay, and the direction.
